Beauty

Beyond the prevailing “ugliness,” beauty is an invitation to love that makes us better. “Beauty will save the world.”

Beauty is defined as something more than the RAE’s notion of what simply pleases the eye or ear; it is described as an invitation to love that elevates us. It “takes us out of this world,” for it has the power to reveal another within us, initiating us into a nobler, more exalted, more serene form of existence. As Dostoevsky said, “Beauty will save the world.”

More concretely, beauty manifests as order, as an aesthetic sense in actions, as balance, harmony, care, refinement, and also originality, creativity, and innovation. It involves an appreciation for culture, which teaches us to feel better, to strive for self-knowledge and understanding of others, to enrich our experience, and to give life meaning.
